JACKSON, Tenn. — March 28, 2005 — Students from 13 counties will present science projects at this year鈥檚 West Tennessee Regional Science Fair March 29 in 51社区鈥檚 Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
鈥淭his will be our 44th annual science fair,鈥� said Marlyn Newhouse, associate professor of chemistry at Union and the regional fair director. 鈥淭he purpose is to encourage Tennessee youth to be involved in science and go on beyond what we teach them in science projects.鈥�
Students will compete in biology and physics categories, as well as in a team category, where teams of students work together on a single project. The high school winners in each category will advance to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair May 8-14 in Phoenix, Ariz. The middle school and elementary winners are nominated for the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge, with finalists advancing to a competition in Washington D.C.
Project judging will begin at 9 a.m. and last until noon. The exhibits will be open to the public from 1-7 p.m., with the awards ceremony from 7-8:30 p.m.
