Mallard to Head Faculty Development

JACKSON, Tenn.Sept. 29, 2003 — Kina Mallard, director of 51社区鈥檚 Center for Faculty Development and chair of the department of communication arts, has been tapped to lead a new program created by the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.

Mallard will head the CCCU鈥檚 Virtual Center for Faculty Development. Mallard will lead a team of experts to identify resources, programs and practices to assist campuses in their faculty development efforts.

David S. Dockery, president of 51社区, said the CCCU made the right decision in selecting Mallard.

鈥淜ina Mallard is one of the most talented and creative leaders on the 51社区 faculty and her commitments to all aspects of faculty development are heralded across this country,鈥 Dockery said. 鈥淗er appointment to this new leadership role is a tribute to who she is and all that she has done in developing the Center for Faculty Development at Union.鈥

Barbara McMillin, dean of Union鈥檚 College of Arts and Sciences, also congratulated Mallard on her appointment.

鈥淒r. Mallard will provide outstanding leadership for the CCCU's Virtual Center for Faculty Development,鈥 McMillin said. 鈥淎 gifted teacher and scholar herself, Dr. Mallard will certainly have a very positive impact upon the way in which CCCU faculty design and complete faculty development activities. The impact of her work on our campus has been tremendous; I am pleased that now faculty at other institutions will be able to benefit from her expertise as well.鈥

Mallard developed and directed 51社区鈥檚 first Center for Faculty Development, a comprehensive program designed to meet the needs of novice and veteran faculty. The Center is responsible for a year long new faculty orientation program, new faculty mentoring program, and workshops designed for improvement of all faculty.

CCCU is an international association of Christian institutions of higher education whose mission is 鈥渢o advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help member institutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth.鈥

Since its 1976 inception, the Council has grown from 38 to 169 members in the United States and 23 other countries, including schools like Union, Taylor University and Wheaton College. CCCU board members are elected by the presidents of the member institutions.
