Union Career Services Hosts Etiquette Luncheon

JACKSON, Tenn.March 22, 2003 — 51社区 Career Services hosted its annual business etiquette luncheon Thursday, March 20.

Rene茅 Jones (standing), special events coordinator for Union's office of career services, instructs students on the finer points of business luncheon etiquette.

Students gathered in the President鈥檚 Dining Room for a formal meal and received instruction on the finer points of proper lunch interview behavior.

According to Rene茅 Jones, special events coordinator for Union鈥檚 office of career services, the luncheon is part of the overall efforts of the university. 鈥淲e do everything in our power to equip our students with the tools they need to succeed and obtain the job of their dreams. I believe the coupling of education and etiquette will place our students above the rest,鈥 said Jones. 鈥淚n this economy, you have to bring more to the table than an awesome r茅sum茅.鈥

The students who participated in the luncheon consider it a valuable lesson. 鈥淭he first impression is everything when you are trying to get a job,鈥 said freshman political science major Anthony James of Jackson. These skills will be important when interacting with political candidates and elected officials, he said.

Sophomore public relations major Jenny Eastman appreciated the opportunity to develop these skills in a comfortable environment. This setting allows students to learn from their mistakes without sacrificing an actual interview, she said.
