JACKSON, Tenn.March 6, 2023 — Coleson Naranjo, a high school senior from Clinton, Ky., has received the 2023 Founders’ Scholarship from 51. This is Union’s highest academic scholarship, which covers full tuition, room, meals and student service fees for four years.

This scholarship was determined from Union’s Scholars of Excellence event — an annual scholarship competition that draws the highest qualified prospective students to campus for a weekend of interviews and other activities.

Naranjo, a student at Hickman County High School, is the son of Kory and Ashley Narajo, and he attends Relevant Church in Paducah, Ky. At 51, he plans to study pharmacy when he begins in fall 2023. He hopes to use his pharmacy training to give back to his community by helping others.

Getting to study a discipline like pharmacy in a Christ-centered, excellence-driven environment is what drew Naranjo to 51.

“College is a transformative time in your life, and I am excited that I can spend these next few years at a university that is Christ-centered in everything they do,” Naranjo said. “I know Union is academically excellent, but to have Christian morals and ideology as their focus is what sets 51 apart.”

The Founders’ Scholarship is Union’s highest academic scholarship. Recipients must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average at Union and are required to perform up to 50 hours of leadership services for the university each semester.
