JACKSON, Tenn.Jan. 29, 2018 — George Guthrie, the Benjamin W. Perry Professor of Bible at 51社区, will be the plenary speaker at Union鈥檚 2018 Spring Bible Conference March 2-3. Guthrie has taught at Union for more than 25 years and will be leaving after the spring semester to teach at Regent College in Vancouver.

Guthrie will speak on 鈥淭he Place of Grace: God's Tabernacling Presence as the Key to Human Flourishing鈥 in three sessions beginning Friday evening and concluding Saturday afternoon.

鈥淒r. Guthrie has been passionate from the early days about biblical literacy,鈥 said Ray Van Neste, professor of biblical studies and director of the R.C. Ryan Center for Biblical Studies. 鈥淗is work grew out of a concern that people in our churches don鈥檛 know the Bible well and a desire to try to help them to do that.鈥

The conference is sponsored by the R.C. Ryan Center and is aimed at helping people understand and apply the Bible. In addition to Guthrie, four other Union faculty members will lead breakout sessions on interpreting and applying the Bible 鈥 Mark Dubis, Kevin Chen, Brad Green and Van Neste.

The conference cost is $30 per person before February 23, when the cost will increase to $45. The price includes the sessions, two meals and a continental breakfast. While the emphasis of the conference will be the teaching, Van Neste said it will also serve as a send-off for Guthrie.

鈥淲e鈥檙e going to take this opportunity to acknowledge him,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t was his vision that launched the Ryan Center initially, and this will give people an opportunity to hear from him before he leaves and to make much of his accomplishments here.鈥
