JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 28, 2016 — Wyatt Woeltje, a senior business administration major at 51社区, recently won an essay competition on the topic of ethical business practices.
The Institute of Real Estate Management, an organization of which Woeltje has been a student member for more than a year, sponsored the contest.
鈥淲inning this competition means I get an all-expense-paid trip to San Diego for a leadership conference, $500, and my article will be published in the real estate journal,鈥� Woeltje said. 鈥淚 basically hit the floor when I got the email that I won.鈥�
Woeltje, of Jackson, Tennessee, said the experience with IREM has given him insight into the real estate industry and how businesses can be ethical and successful.
鈥淚 see a lot of people in the business industry who don鈥檛 treat workers correctly,鈥� Woeltje said. 鈥淚 believe you can be ethical and profitable at the same time. You can do one good act, change someone鈥檚 mindset and create a positive impact on society.鈥�
Woeltje plans to carry out his thoughts from his essay on ethical business through his own ventures, including a men鈥檚 clothing line he started recently.
鈥淚 came into Union a Christian, but having professors that stressed having a Christian mindset 鈥� not forcing that ideology, but having your actions show your belief 鈥� emphasized in me what I want to do long term,鈥� Woeltje said. 鈥淚f I do reach the top as a CEO or president, I鈥檒l be able to see what it would truly look like on a large scale.鈥�
Woeltje will be presented with his $500 scholarship in October at the IREM Fall Leadership Conference in San Diego.
