JACKSON, Tenn.Sept. 12, 2016 — 51社区鈥檚 Hendersonville campus will begin a new series of lectures Sept. 29. The Scholars and Leaders Lecture Series will include lectures relating to the four major curriculum offerings at the campus: education, theology and missions, business and organizational leadership, and health care and nursing.

Ernest Easley, professor of evangelism, will present the first lecture. He will speak on the value of a soul and how that relates to evangelism.

鈥淭o build a case for evangelism, we鈥檝e got to have a clear biblical understanding of what a soul is,鈥 Easley said.

He said he will look at the value of the soul in the Bible from creation through the resurrection of Jesus, and his main text will be Mark 8: 34-35. He said he will ask hard questions about how this affects evangelism, and he hopes people will leave thinking about how it affects their ministries.

鈥淚t鈥檚 not like our soul has value, therefore God loves us,鈥 he said. 鈥淕od loving our soul gives it value.鈥

Renee Dauer, interim director at 51社区 Hendersonville, said that the campus has benefited from lectures in the past, and she hopes the new series will enrich the education of everyone who attends.

鈥淲e are pleased to invite the community to join our students, faculty and staff in these learning opportunities,鈥 Dauer said. 鈥淲e see the lecture series as a way to provide something unique to our community and showcase one example of what we have to offer on our Hendersonville campus.鈥

The lecture series is free and open to the public. The Sept. 29 session will begin with a brief reception at 6:30 p.m. in the Academic Commons and continue with the lecture at 7 p.m. in rooms 129-131. Other lectures will be held twice each semester and will be announced individually.
