JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 8, 2014 — Ryan T. Anderson, writer and researcher for The Heritage Foundation, will speak at 51’s “True Marriage Equality: Man and Woman” lecture Feb. 13.
The William E. Simon Fellow in Religion and a Free Society, Anderson is an established speaker on the topic of marriage, said Micah Watson, associate professor of political science at Union. Anderson, who serves as the editor of the online journal “Public Discourse,” also is the co-author of “What Is Marriage? Man and Woman: A Defense.”
“Ryan Anderson has that rare combination of an outstanding scholarly and intellectual pedigree with a knack for winsome, clear and incisive communication,” Watson said. “He is perhaps the most in-demand speaker on this issue in the country.”
Watson noted that the marriage equality debate impacts people at a local, state and federal level, making this topic a pivotal and important controversy in today’s culture.
“From the earliest church fathers, Christians have not shied away from addressing marriage and its importance,” Watson said. “We stand in an unbroken line of Christian tradition by engaging this issue, aspiring to address it with what Dr. David S. Dockery calls ‘convictional civility.’”
The lecture will be held at the Carl Grant Events Center at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
