JACKSON, Tenn. — Jan. 30, 2014 — While an active member of the student body, Beverly Delk can be found in only a few photos from her time as a 51社区 student.
That鈥檚 because she was always taking pictures of everyone else, said Elizabeth Oakes, former president of Union鈥檚 Kappa Delta chapter, of which Delk was a member.
鈥淪he was enthusiastic from day one,鈥� said Oakes, who was serving as the sorority president when Delk joined in the fall of 2012. 鈥淏everly brought spunk and sincerity to our chapter and had a beautiful laugh that I will never forget.鈥�
Delk, a former art major from Franklin, Tenn., died suddenly Jan. 29 after brief complications with acute leukemia.
鈥淲e are grateful for Beverly Delk鈥檚 life and the influence that she had on so many of her peers,鈥� said Union President David S. Dockery. 鈥淎ll of us at Union are sad to hear the news of her death. We pray for her family and friends during this time.鈥�
Kappa Delta members gathered Wednesday evening to mourn the loss of their sorority sister, said Emily Russell, current sorority president. During that time, members shared stories about the joyous life Beverly led.
鈥淔rom the first day I met Beverly, I knew Christ was the most important person in her life,鈥� Russell said. 鈥淪he loved life, loved people and most importantly loved God. Everything she did, she did with all of her heart, mind, body and spirit. Her laugh was contagious, her smile lit up a room, and everything about her demonstrated joy that can only be known through a deep relationship with Jesus Christ.鈥�
In addition to serving on the Freshman Council, Delk also applied to be a Life Group leader before transferring to Middle Tennessee State University in 2013 after her freshman year at Union.
Despite the distance, Delk鈥檚 friends said she continued to remain close to the Union community.
鈥淲hile I was sad she could not stay at Union, I am now grateful that she was able to impact that many more people with her bright and caring personality at MTSU,鈥� Oakes said. 鈥淚 am thankful she is now fully healed, and I have no doubt that she is dancing in heaven.鈥�
Visitation will be Saturday from 2-8 p.m. and Sunday from noon-1 p.m. at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin. The funeral will be held Sunday at 1 p.m.
