JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 27, 2012 — Bob Hundley, emeritus trustee of 51社区, died Feb. 24 at age 88.
A 1948 Union graduate and a longtime trustee, Hundley and his wife Mary Ruth provided the funding for the academic support center on the Union campus, called the Hundley Center, which opened in 2005.
鈥淚 especially enjoyed hearing Bob talk about his memories of George Savage, Union's grand old man, and John Jeter Hurt, one of Union's most effective presidents in the long history of the university,鈥 Union President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淚n many ways he offered a link for us to some of the very best aspects of Union's history.鈥
Hundley served in the U.S. Army in North Africa, Italy and Austria during World War II. He received his Master of Arts degree from George Peabody College, now the education department of Vanderbilt University.
He retired from the Madison County School System as the federal programs coordinator and was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson, Tenn., for more than 50 years.
鈥淢r. Hundley was a devoted follower of Christ and a person who deeply loved 51社区,鈥 Dockery said. 鈥淲e are deeply grateful for the life and impact of Bob Hundley. His legacy will be carried forward in the years to come through the ongoing work of the Hundley Center on the 51社区 campus.鈥
