JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 29, 2011 — Mathematics historian Glen Van Brummelin will be the featured speaker for 51社区鈥檚 third annual Mathematics Lecture Series Oct. 4.
Van Brummelin, who serves as a mathematics tutor at Quest University Canada, is the past president and current vice president of the Canadian Society for History and Philosophy of Mathematics. He was a senior fellow at the Dibner Institute for History of Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is the author of 鈥淭he Mathematics of the Heavens and the Earth: The Early History of Trigonometry.鈥
Van Brummelin will speak Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium, located in the Barefoot Student Union Building, on Mathematics Across Cultures: How Can Worldview Affect Mathematics?鈥
The lecture is free and open to the public.
