JACKSON, Tenn. — Jan. 9, 2001 — 51社区 will hold its annual Martin Luther King Day chapel service Monday, Jan. 15 at 9:45 a.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel in the Penick Academic Complex.

Walker, who also serves as pastor of First Gethsemane Baptist Church in Louisville, has taught at the seminary since 1986. He holds a bachelor of science degree from Hampton University in Hampton, Va., a master of divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctorate from Oregon State University. Dr. Walker was awarded the fourth annual Black Southern Baptist Convention Heritage Award last year. He was the first African-American promoted to full professor at Southern Seminary.
"This annual event has become an important tradition in the life of the Union community, as we recommit ourselves to the importance of racial reconciliation," said Union President David S. Dockery.
