JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 6, 2009 — A Thursday evening panel discussion has been added to the schedule of this week鈥檚 鈥淪outhern Baptists, Evangelicals, and the Future of Denominationalism鈥� conference at 51社区.
The panel discussion on Thursday will begin at 7:45 p.m. following an address by 51社区 President David S. Dockery, whose message is entitled 鈥淪o Many Denominations: The Rise and Decline of Denominationalism and the Shaping of a Global Evangelicalism.鈥�
Panel participants will include Greg Thornbury, dean of the School of Christian Studies at 51社区; Buddy Gray, pastor of Hunter Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala.; Charles Fowler, senior vice president for university relations at Union; Danny Sinquefield, pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett, Tenn.; Roland Porter, associate professor of business at Union; George Guthrie, the Benjamin W. Perry Professor of Bible at Union; and Doug Baker, editor of the Baptist Messenger of Oklahoma.
Panel participants will respond to topics from the conference and take questions from the audience.
The conference kicks off this evening with a 5 p.m. address by Ed Stetzer, director of LifeWay Research, on the topic 鈥淒enominationalism: Is There a Future?鈥� James Patterson, professor of Christian studies at Union, will speak at 7 p.m. tonight on 鈥淩eflections on 400 Years of the Baptist Movement: Who We Are. What We Believe.鈥�
The conference concludes Friday after a 10 a.m. chapel address from R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
