Bray to lecture as Scholar-in-Residence

JACKSON, Tenn.Sept. 29, 2009 — Author and theologian Gerald L. Bray will lecture in conjunction with the Scholar-in-Residence Program at 51社区 Sept. 29-Oct. 5.

Bray, research professor at Samford University in Birmingham. Ala., will speak four times about various aspects of God鈥檚 love.

The Scholar-in-Residence Program is sponsored by Union鈥檚 Interdisciplinary Honors Program.

Bray is the author of many articles and books, including 鈥淭he Doctrine of God,鈥 鈥淏iblical Interpretation: Past and Present鈥 and 鈥淲e Believe in One God,鈥 among others. He graduated with a bachelor鈥檚 degree from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and earned his master鈥檚 and doctor鈥檚 degrees from the University of Paris-Sorbonne.

The schedule and topics for Bray鈥檚 lectures is as follows:

Lecture 1, 鈥淕od鈥檚 Love for Himself,鈥 Tuesday, Sept. 29, 12:15 p.m.

Lecture 2, 鈥淕od鈥檚 Love for His Creation,鈥 Thursday, Oct. 1, 12:15 p.m.

Lecture 3, 鈥淭he Rejection of God鈥檚 Love,鈥 Friday, Oct. 2, noon.

Lecture 4, 鈥淕od鈥檚 Response to the Rejection of His Love,鈥 Monday, Oct. 5, noon.

All lectures will be held in Union鈥檚 Coburn Dining Room, and each lecture will be 40 minutes long. The dining room will open 30 minutes before the lecture for those wishing to bring their lunch.

Audio from all lectures will be posted at in the near future.

In addition to the four lectures, a reception welcoming Bray will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. in Coburn. Bray will also speak on the debate between John Piper and N.T. Wright at a Christian Studies colloquium Sept. 29 at 3:15 p.m. in Jennings 325.
