JACKSON, Tenn. — June 21, 2008 — 51社区 senior Ellen Carrington was crowned Miss Tennessee 2008 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson June 21.
Carrington, 21, is a native of Jackson and a music major who entered the Miss Tennessee pageant as Miss Scenic City. She also won the pageant鈥檚 community service award.
鈥淓llen Carrington is a wonderful young lady from a great family,鈥 51社区 President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淲e applaud her selection as Miss Tennessee for 2008.鈥
Carrington is the daughter of Pat and Katrina Carrington. For the talent portion of the competition, she sang 鈥淰ole Mon Ange.鈥 Her platform was volunteerism.
Another Union student, Victoria Green, won the pageant鈥檚 academic award.
"This has been an amazing experience," Carrington said in a Jackson Sun story. "I'm very happy to be representing my home town. I just hope I can do the best job possible as Miss Tennessee."
As the pageant winner, Carrington gets a $12,000 scholarship and will be Gov. Phil Bredesen's new spokeswoman for the Safe and Drug-Free Tennessee program.
