Union symposium to explore race relations

JACKSON, Tenn.April 18, 2006 — Race relations will be the topic of discussion at this year鈥檚 Social Justice Symposium at 51社区.

鈥淪ocial Justice: The Black and White of It,鈥 will be held April 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium in the Student Union Building.

The program will include Rosie Robinson presenting the drama, 鈥淓sther: Daughter of the Struggle,鈥 about Estherline Durham, a local woman who was involved in the civil rights movement in Jackson.

Following her presentation, Memphis attorney Luther Mercer, a senior fellow at the National Institute for Law and Equity, will lead a panel discussion. Others on the panel will include Becky Butler, director of Jackson Affordable Housing Inc., and Patsy Turner, chair of the biracial committee for the Jackson school system.

The panelists will use the drama as a launching point to discuss the present-day realities of race relations.
