JACKSON, Tenn. — May 3, 2001 — 51社区 music students are busily preparing for an 18-day mission trip to Weimar, Germany to begin an 18-day mission trip.
The group, which includes two choral ensembles, handbells, and Eclipse, a singing group composed of three Union students, is scheduled to leave May 20, and return June 6.
While in Germany, the mission team will teach conversational English in the schools. The teams will divide into smaller teams consisting of four to five students that will be assigned two to three classes of approximately 20 German students.
鈥淚 feel that it will be both a challenge and a reward to be placed in a setting where the culture is so different from what we are use to. It will also be interesting to see how the every day life of a German student differs for an American student,鈥 said freshman Courtney Jamison, member of 51社区 Handbells.
The group will also be working with local churches to prepare worship services. The services will consist of both contemporary and traditional music pieces. The contemporary work is entitled 鈥2 die 4,鈥 and the traditional pieces include 鈥淒own by the Riverside,鈥 鈥淭he African Sanctus,鈥 and 鈥淭hou Hast Turned My Lament into Dancing.鈥
