JACKSON, Tenn. — Nov. 2, 2005 — A quartet of 51 faculty members and local musicians will perform Olivier Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” Nov. 3 at 51.
The quartet will feature Union faculty members David McClune on the clarinet and Terry McRoberts on the piano, as well as local musicians Kate Ryan on the violin and Jamie Stephens on the cello.
“Quartet for the End of Time” was composed in 1940 while Messiaen was a prisoner of war in a German camp. The piece is based on verses from the book of Revelation which tell of an angel who will announce the end of time.
The recital is free and open to the public. It begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Hartley Recital Hall, located in Jennings Hall on the west end of Union’s campus.
