JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 13, 2005 — The 51社区 Players will present Moliere鈥檚 鈥淭artuffe鈥� in the university鈥檚 W.D. Powell Theater beginning Oct. 13.
Darren Michael, Union theater professor and play director, said 鈥淭artuffe鈥� is 鈥渟lapstick and loony but with serious stuff on how not to judge people. It鈥檚 good for the whole family.鈥�
Michael added that 鈥淭artuffe鈥� mocks religious hypocrites and ridicules the characters displaying how 鈥渞eal Christians鈥� should act. Moliere often wrote with the idea of making fun of the hypocritical, which the people of his time did not like. However, the royalty loved him, so he continued producing his works and was not bothered.
Show dates for 鈥淭artuffe鈥� are Oct. 13-18 at 8:00 p.m. nightly, except for Oct. 16, which will be a 2:30 p.m. matinee.
Tickets are $4 for students and $7 for general admission.
