Students wanting to help in relief efforts should wait for instructions

JACKSON, Tenn.Aug. 30, 2005 — 51社区 officials are asking students interested in helping in the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts to stay put for now until the needs have been properly assessed.

鈥淲e are encouraging students who desire to help over the Labor Day weekend as well as others who might desire to lend assistance to wait until needed and appropriate avenues of relief have been determined by those leading the efforts,鈥 said Todd Brady, minister to the university. 鈥淎s of now, because officials are not allowing residents to return to areas, there is not that much that can be done physically by relief workers until the storm and its worst after effects have passed.鈥

Brady said he will communicate to students and the Union community how help can be provided once he hears from relief coordinators. Until then, he asked students to continue to pray for those affected.
