Union men鈥檚 soccer team looking to do yard work, other odd jobs to raise money for Bartos family

JACKSON, Tenn.Aug. 16, 2005 — The men鈥檚 soccer team at 51社区 will do yard work and other odd jobs around Jackson on Friday, Aug. 19, to raise money for the family of Titus Bartos, whose mother was killed in a car accident last week.

Bartos, 23, graduated from 51社区 in May and was supposed to have been married last weekend. A native of Romania, Bartos鈥 parents had come to the United States for his wedding.

But his mother, Maria, died Aug. 10, just three days before the scheduled wedding. Now her funeral is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 20, in Atlanta, and Titus and his fianc茅e, Laura Dennison, will marry the next day.

With five siblings, the cost for the entire family to come to the funeral and the wedding is high. Darin White, the men鈥檚 soccer coach at Union, said many of his players are friends of Titus and want to do what they can to help the family financially.

White said the team鈥檚 Aug. 19 practices would be canceled. The team is looking for people in the Jackson area who need their lawns mowed or help with other light chores around their homes. Donations will be accepted for all work done, with all proceeds going to the Bartos family.

鈥淲e鈥檙e not skilled labor, but we are 40 guys who can do pretty much anything,鈥 White said. 鈥淲e鈥檒l work from sun up to sun down if there鈥檚 enough work.鈥

Anyone interested in scheduling the soccer players to work around their home or business on Friday, Aug. 19, can call White at (731) 661-1225.
