JACKSON, Tenn. — July 7, 2005 — Carolyn Bishop, president and international director of the Consortium for Global Education in Marietta, Ga., will be the speaker at 51社区鈥檚 summer graduation ceremony Aug. 6.
About 250 students will receive degrees during the 11 a.m. ceremony at West Jackson Baptist Church, bringing the total number of graduates to more than 900 for the academic year at Union.
鈥淐arolyn Bishop has for many years been at the forefront of international education efforts among Baptist educators,鈥 51社区 President David S. Dockery said. 鈥淒r. Bishop is driven by her vision for the world and her love for the gospel.鈥
Bishop has more than 20 years of experience with international public and private schools, government ministries and foreign educational institutions. Her overseas work includes eight years in South Korea; four years leading educational work in Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa; and a year in Hong Kong developing educational opportunities in East Asia.
She earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in education from Furman University, her master鈥檚 degree in education from Clemson University and her doctor of philosophy degree in educational administration and leadership from Emory University.
Bishop鈥檚 topic for the commencement address will be 鈥淭he Global Race: Competition and Cooperation.鈥
