Union senior wins Alpha Chi fellowship

JACKSON, Tenn.May 18, 2005 — 51社区 senior Matthew Crawford was one of nine students nationally to receive an H.Y. Benedict Fellowship from Alpha Chi, the national college honor society.

The $2,500 fellowship is for the first year of graduate or professional study. For Crawford, the money will help pay for his first year of studies at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., where he will pursue a master of divinity degree. He and his wife Brandy will move to Louisville in mid-July.

Crawford said he鈥檚 unsure of his long-term plans, although he could envision being a professor of theology or a pastor.

鈥淢aybe both of those things at the same time,鈥 he said.

A native of Jackson, Crawford is a Christian Studies major at Union. He is the son of Bill and Joyce Crawford of Jackson.
