Award-winning poet to speak at Union April 19

JACKSON, Tenn.April 14, 2005 — Poet and novelist Judson Mitcham will be at 51社区 April 19 for a poetry reading and book signing.

Mitcham is the author of 鈥淭his April Day鈥 and 鈥淪omewhere in Ecclesiastes,鈥 a collection of poems that won the Devins Award. His novel 鈥淭he Sweet Everlasting鈥 won the Townsend Prize and was a finalist for the Southern Book Critics Award.

His work has appeared in many literary journals, including 鈥淭he Georgia Review,鈥 鈥淧oetry鈥 and 鈥淗arper鈥檚.鈥

Mitcham is a retired psychology professor from Fort Valley State University and now teaches creative writing at Emory University and Mercer University.

The poetry reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium in the Student Union Building on the 51社区 campus. A book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public.
