Tanner to discuss Social Security at town hall meeting

JACKSON, Tenn.March 17, 2005 — U.S. Rep. John Tanner will address the issue of Social Security at a town hall meeting March 29 at 51社区.

Tanner will discuss the problem with Social Security as he sees it and will explore some of the competing proposals to fix the system. A question-and-answer session will follow his presentation.

鈥淭he main purpose I see in this is to raise awareness, educate the public and provide feedback to an elected representative,鈥 said Union political science professor Sean Evans. 鈥淪ocial Security is a very important issue for many people, both and young and old, especially young. So I鈥檇 like to raise awareness of students on campus of an issue which directly affects them.鈥

The town hall meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel on Union鈥檚 campus. The event is open to the public.

For more information, call Evans at (731) 661-5237.
