Boylan named head coach of new Union women鈥檚 soccer team

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 28, 2005 — Brandon Boylan has been named the head coach of the new 51社区 women鈥檚 soccer team that will begin this fall.

Boylan, a 1996 graduate of Union and a native of Jacksonville, N.C., will begin his coaching duties immediately. He is already on staff at Union as associate director of wellness services.

鈥淚t is an honor and privilege to be named to this position,鈥 Boylan said 鈥淎s an alum of Union, it was always a goal of mine to be a part of starting a women鈥檚 soccer program at Union.鈥

鈥淲e are very excited to have Brandon join our department as the women鈥檚 soccer coach,鈥 Union athletic director David Blackstock said. 鈥淗e has previous coaching experience at both the high school and NCAA Division I level. Brandon brings a good work ethic to the program that will mesh the women鈥檚 soccer program into an already successful athletic department.鈥

Now Boylan is busy recruiting for his first season, which will begin in August.

鈥淢y job is challenging because I want to take the winning tradition of the Union athletic department and bring that to the women鈥檚 soccer program,鈥 Boylan said. 鈥淚 want to build the women鈥檚 program with young ladies who will excel on and off the field.鈥

During his undergraduate years at Union, Boylan was instrumental in starting and building Union鈥檚 first soccer program. He was a part of the first Union club soccer team which became a varsity team in 1998.

After graduating from Union in 1996 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in physical education and health, Boylan was head coach of the Covington (Tenn.) High School soccer team until 1999. From there he went to East Tennessee State University, where he was an assistant soccer coach.

He is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and holds a coaching license from the U.S. Soccer Federation.

Boylan is working on a master鈥檚 degree from the University of Memphis.
