JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 2, 2005 — Author and theologian Millard Erickson will lecture in conjunction with the Scholar-in-Residence Program this spring at 51社区.
Erickson, Distinguished Professor of Theology at Truett Seminary in Waco, Texas, and at Western Seminary in Portland, Ore., will speak four times about the role theology plays in relation to other academic disciplines.
The Scholar-in-Residence Program is sponsored by Union鈥檚 Interdisciplinary Honors Program.
鈥淲e鈥檝e tried to get him before as scholar-in-residence but have not been able to,鈥� said Randall Bush, professor of Christian studies at Union. 鈥淗e鈥檚 an extremely busy man, involved in numerous, numerous projects. So, it is quite a feather in our cap to have him here.鈥�
In addition to the four lectures, Bush said Erickson will work closely with some of Union鈥檚 finest students.
鈥淲e usually do the Oxford tutorial method 鈥� let them meet one-on-one with him so that he can mentor them,鈥� Bush said.
Erickson is the author of many articles and books, including 鈥淐hristian Theology鈥� and 鈥淭he Word Became Flesh: An Incarnational Christology.鈥�
He graduated with bachelor鈥檚 degrees from the University of Minnesota and Northern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned a master of arts degree in philosophy from the University of Chicago and a doctor of philosophy degree from Northwestern University.
Erickson previously taught at Wheaton College, Bethel Seminary and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Lecture 2, 鈥淐an Theology Learn Anything from History?鈥� Thursday, March 10, 12:15 p.m.
Lecture 3, 鈥淐an Theology Learn Anything from Physics?鈥� Tuesday, March 15, 12:15 p.m.
Lecture 4, 鈥淐an Theology Learn Anything from Economics?鈥� Wednesday, March 16, noon.
All lectures will be held in Union鈥檚 Coburn Dining Room III. Each lecture will be 45 minutes, followed by a question-and-answer session. The dining room will open at 11:30 a.m. each day for those wishing to eat lunch prior to the lecture.
A reception welcoming Erickson will be held Wednesday, March 2, at 11 a.m. in Coburn Dining Room I.
The Scholar-in-Residence Program is in its 12th year at Union and has featured prominent thinkers such as Arthur Holmes and Anthony Thiselton.
