JACKSON, Tenn. — Jan. 19, 2005 — Two noted political commentators will visit 51社区 this spring to provide their insight into the 2004 presidential election.
Clarence Page and Morton Kondracke will be the speakers for the seventh annual Union Forum lecture series. Page will visit Union March 8, while Kondracke will be on campus April 4.
Each will address the subject, 鈥淔uture Directed: A Look at America after the 2004 Presidential Election.鈥�
Page is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and has been a member of the Chicago Tribune editorial board for nearly 21 years. His column is syndicated nationally from Washington D.C., where he has been based since 1991.
As an investigative journalist, Page has reported on the changing politics of South Africa, vote fraud and a 1980 series called 鈥淭he Black Tax.鈥� In addition to the Pulitzers in 1972 and 1989, United Press International and the Chicago Journalism Hall of Fame have also recognized his work.
A familiar commentator on national television, Page appears regularly on PBS programs such as 鈥淭he McLaughlin Group鈥� and 鈥淣ewsHour with Jim Lehrer.鈥� He was also a contributor on Black Entertainment Television鈥檚 weekly 鈥淟ead Story鈥� news panel.
Kondracke is editor of Roll Call, an independent newspaper covering events on Capitol Hill. He is also co-host of the Fox News Channel鈥檚 鈥淭he Beltway Boys.鈥� Former Union Forum speaker Fred Barnes is his partner for the program.
For 16 years, Kondracke was a regular panelist on 鈥淭he McLaughlin Group,鈥� a political program seen on 350 stations nationwide. His other broadcasting credits include frequent appearances on 鈥淣ewsHour with Jim Lehrer鈥� and 鈥淰oice of America.鈥�
His recent book 鈥淪aving Millie鈥� earned critical acclaim for telling the story of his late wife鈥檚 struggle with Parkinson 鈥檚 disease. Kondracke has become an expert on medical funding issues, and is frequently called upon to put the nation鈥檚 political developments in perspective.
