51社区 GO Trips 2001 Begin

JACKSON, Tenn.April 4, 2001 — More than 200 51社区 students and faculty will be participating in the upcoming annual school-sponsored Global Opportunities (GO) Trips, traveling to places such as Honduras; Senegal; Hungary; North Africa; Arlington, Texas; Irving, Texas; Chicago, Ill.; Casper, Wyo; Hilton Head, S.C.; Greenville, S.C.; Naples, Fla.; and Jackson, Tenn.

鈥淕O Trips help students develop a Christian worldview,鈥 said Union鈥檚 director of student outreach, Suzanne Frost. 鈥淎fter you go on one of these trips, you look at the world differently.鈥

Many of the trips will have a specific interest or ministry in mind. The Honduras trip will focus on an orphanage by doing construction work and working with the children there. Students will partner in Arlington with a community center called Mission Arlington to work with children and medical clinics. The GO Trip to Irving will include work in afterschool programs in association with members of the Bear Creek Church. In Chicago, student will assist teachers at The Children鈥檚 Place, a day care for HIV positive Children. Staying in Jackson, students will do light construction for needy citizens and participate in prayerwalking through the east side of the city. All the teams will serve in different ways such as leading in worship services, Backyard Bible Clubs, door-to-door evangelism, street evangelism, beach and resort ministry, construction and clean-up, college campus ministry and ministry to the homeless.

Most of the trip will occur during the university鈥檚 spring break, April 9 鈥 13. The students and faculty of 51社区 hope to make an impact both at home and abroad, by following the theme for this year鈥檚 trips, How will they know? When we go!鈥 Doors are being opened for evangelism and Unionites are doing their part to spread the news.
