JACKSON, Tenn. — Nov. 24, 2004 — Community members are invited to a night of Christmas carols and Scripture reading at the third annual “A Union Christmas” Dec. 7 in 51’s Savage Chapel.
The music department of 51 is responsible for leading the event. The night will feature songs from groups such as the University Singers, Proclamation, the Symphonic Band, Handbells and a community children’s choir.
“We feel that it’s very, very lovely,” said Richard Joiner, chair of the university’s music department. “It’s not a drama, and it’s not a singing Christmas tree. It’s a Scripture-focused service of worship.”
The feature performance of the evening will be the Choral Union singing Vivaldi’s “Gloria.”
“The Christmas event at 51 is a wonderful celebration, not only for our campus, but for the entire West Tennessee community,” 51 president David Dockery said. “I commend Richard Joiner and the music department for their outstanding work in preparation for this event, and I invite the friends of 51 to join us for this very special evening.”
“A Union Christmas” begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free of charge. For more information, contact Gloria Duncan at (731) 661-5345.
