JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 16, 2004 — 51社区鈥檚 department of music will present virtuoso concert organist Marilyn Keiser on Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. for the annual McAfee Organ Recital. The performance will take place in the G. M. Savage Memorial Chapel located in the Penick Academic Complex on the university鈥檚 campus.
Keiser is Chancellor鈥檚 Professor of Music at Indiana University, Bloomington, teaching sacred music and applied organ. She is a native of Springfield, Ill. and a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University. She earned her master鈥檚 and doctorate degrees in sacred music from Union Theological Seminary in New York City.
Traveling as an organ recitalist and workshop leader, Keiser has performed across the United States and in England, Paris and Brazil, including performances at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., with the Detroit Symphony in Detroit and the International Congress of Organists in Cambridge, England.
Aside from her busy traveling schedule, Keiser has been heard across the United States on National Public Radio stations and has recorded seven albums. The newest release, Studies in Relief, was reviewed by American Record Guide, which stated, 鈥淢arilyn Keiser is one of the most highly respected of American Organists. Her performances here, whether solo or in ensemble, are rock-solid and coherent.鈥�
