JACKSON, Tenn. — Aug. 26, 2004 — 51社区 offers online courses in Old and New Testament, taught by Dr. Paul Jackson, adjunct professor of Christian Studies and senior pastor of Northbrook Church in Three Way.
The courses are part of core requirements for Union students, but Jackson said the class could benefit anyone desiring in-depth knowledge of the Bible.
Each class consists of 15-16 lessons, and students are allowed several days to complete assignments before the lesson is closed for grading. To personalize the classes, Jackson makes the format visually friendly by incorporating graphics and charts and emphasizes interaction through both synchronous and asynchronous discussion. Synchronous discussion takes the form of live chats. Threaded discussions of questions posed by Jackson make up asynchronous discussion forums, in which students respond over a period of several days.
Students not currently enrolled at Union who are interested in registering for online courses may contact Dr. Sam Myatt, director of academic services for the department of continuing studies, by calling (731) 661-5370.
