JACKSON, Tenn. — May 3, 2004 — The 51社区 department of music will present the Choral Union with orchestra in a performance of Joseph 贬补测诲苍鈥檚 The Creation Tuesday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Jackson.
Soloists will be members of the voice faculty at Union: Dianne Gatwoood, , soprano, associate professor of music; Georgia Wellborn, soprano, professor of music; Michael Penny, bass-baritone, associate professor of music; and Kevin Lambert, tenor, chair of the department of music at University of Tennessee-Martin. Dr. James Richard Joiner, chair of the 51社区 department of music, will conduct the performance.
The Creation was one of the last major works composed by Joseph Haydn, who had been influenced by hearing Handel鈥檚 Messiah performed in England in 1791. Between 1793 and 1796, Haydn composed the oratorio to texts from Genesis and Milton鈥檚 Paradise Lost and has provided the ages with a unique major work that explores humankind鈥檚 relationship with the Creator God.
The public is invited to the performance. There is no admission charge.
