JACKSON, Tenn. — March 1, 2001 — 51社区 alumnus and the winner of the 1999 Dove award for Male Vocalist of the Year, Chris Rice, will be in concert on Saturday, March 24, at 7 p.m., in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel on the university's campus.
"An Evening with Chris Rice," sponsored jointly by Union and local Christian radio 88.1 WAMP, will be one of only nine concerts Rice is giving to promote his new album, "Smell the Color 9."
"Smell the Color 9 is musically the most fun, interesting, and diverse album that I have done," Rice said. "I hope people will enjoy the fun elements in this new record, and be challenged in their faith at the same time."
Rice and his Nashville-based recording label, Rocketown Records, are promoting his third and latest album with limited participation of Rice, a rare approach for the music business. Rice, who has worked in youth ministry for the past 12 years, has said he needs to focus on his students instead of his work as an artist.
"I am still convinced, perhaps even more than ever, that my truest and most fruitful work in life is to connect with students relationally and to influence them in their understanding of God and their walk with Him," said Rice.
Tickets are $12 for general admission and $8 for Union students and can purchased at Union, LifeWay Christian Bookstore, Lemstone's and Bible Book Store. For more information, contact the Office of the Dean of Students at (901) 661- 5090.
