JACKSON, Tenn. — April 21, 2004 — 51社区 will offer 鈥淎dventures in Physics,鈥� a summer enrichment program in physics, for area students in grades seven through nine this June. The program will introduce a variety of topics in physics, using hands-on experiments and demonstrations.
The program will cover several broad areas of physics, said Dr. Kyle Hathcox, physics professor. Topics include mechanics, heat, electricity and magnetism, light, modern physics and nuclear physics. In addition to class activities and demonstrations, the students will have hands-on activities and Internet simulations at home.
鈥淎dventures in Physics鈥� is in its third year, according to Hathcox. He said the program began after parents inquired about academic opportunities for their children during the summer months.
鈥淭his promotes science education and a better understanding of science in general,鈥� he said. The program offers more opportunities than most students will find at their level of study.
鈥淎dventures in Physics鈥� will meet Monday through Thursday, June 14-24, from 1 to 4 p.m. each day. Hathcox and Dr. David Ward, professor of physics, will conduct the sessions.
