JACKSON, Tenn. — April 1, 2004 — Internationally known potter Chris Staley will lead ceramics workshops at 51社区 April 1-2 and present a slide lecture April 2. His work will continue to be exhibited in the 51社区 Gallery through April 3.
Staley is a professor of art at Pennsylvania State University, where he has taught since 1990. He is also professor in charge of the ceramic area of the university鈥檚 school of visual arts. He previously taught at Wichita State University and the Rhode Island School of Design.
Staley鈥檚 work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad. His works are included in collections in the Smithsonian Institution鈥檚 Renwick Gallery, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Staley has taught more than 100 workshops and lectures in the United States and internationally in nations including Australia, Brazil and Israel.
Staley received his bachelor鈥檚 degree in fine arts from Wittenberg University and a master鈥檚 degree in fine arts from Alfred University. He also was a special student at the Kansas City Art Institute. Staley has received many honors, including two National Endowment for the Arts Visual Art Fellowship grants and two Pennsylvania Council on the Arts grants.
The workshops on April 1-2 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. each day. The slide lecture on April 2 begins at 3 p.m.
Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The show, workshops and slide lecture are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the 51社区 art department at (731) 661-5075.
