JACKSON, Tenn. — March 26, 2001 — 51 will be hosting a choral and orchestral performance of “King David” on Tuesday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the G.M. Savage Memorial Chapel.
“King David” is a symphonic psalm telling the life of David with music composed by Arthur Honegger. “King David” will be performed by several of Union’s choirs accompanied by a professional orchestra. Union alumni will perform all three solos in the piece: Becky Howard, 1975 graduate, Erin Campbell, 2000 graduate, and Bethany Thrower, 1999 graduate. Andrew Roby, professor of music at Union, will be directing the performance. “It uses unusual orchestration that I think people will find very interesting,” said Roby. “It is a fascinating and contemporary work very dissonant yet beautiful.”
There is no admission fee for “King David”. There will be a reception held afterward in the lobby, and all are invited to attend. For more information, contact Andrew Roby at (901) 661-5311.
