JACKSON, Tenn. — Nov. 18, 2003 — The inaugural Student Film Festival, sponsored by the Digital Media Studies Society and the Student Activities Council, was a great success, according to Cam Tracy, Union's web development agent and advisor to the DMS Society. Nine student films were awarded seventeen Golden Lobes, trophies that featured a spray-painted brain, in various categories.
"We want to give students a forum to show their films in public, which can be very hard to do," Tracy said. "With the technology out there, students can create movies in their rooms and with the technology offered in the labs, they can do full length features and burn them to DVDs.
"This is one concerted effort we hope to make yearly to allow their work to be celebrated," said Tracy. "We want to light a creative fire."
