JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 23, 2003 — The 51社区 Department of Social Work will host "Healing the Hurts: Facing the Challenges in Child Welfare" Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Coburn Dining Room of the Barefoot Student Union Building.
Venessa Ann Brown, associate professor of social work at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, is the featured speaker for the event. Brown's workshop presentations will include "Assessing Children and Families From a Strengths Perspective" and "If Somebody Hurts Me Would You Know?"
Brown earned her Ph. D. in social work, planning, administration and social science at Clark-Atlanta University. She served for eight years with Georgia's Department of Family and Children Services and has taught at the university level for 12 years.
Brown is the author of Child Welfare: Case Studies and is working on her second book. She also serves as a reviewer of Ph.D. dissertations for the University of India.
