JACKSON, Tenn. — March 12, 2001 — Bioethical dilemmas will be the subject of 51社区's upcoming Mars Hill Lecture Series Friday, March 23, titled "Bioethical Dilemmas in Modern Ministry: Living Out Biblical Principals in an Age of Invincible Medicine." Two widely recognized experts in the field of bioethics, E. David Cook and C. Ben Mitchell, will serve as keynote speakers.
E. David Cook |
C. Ben Mitchell |
Formerly the assistant professor of Christian ethics at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., Mitchell currently serves as part of the bioethics and contemporary culture faculty of Trinity International University's Evangelical Divinity School. He also serves as bioethics consultant for the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission - the moral concerns, public policy, and religious liberty agency of the Southern Baptist Convention with offices in Nashville and Washington, DC.
Greg Thornbury, instructor of Christian studies and director of the Center for Christian Leadership said this conference is important because "the issues that will be talked about are the most serious cultural issues confronting Christians in the early part of this century, and Christians must know how to respond to these issues and questions from a thoroughly thought-out Christian worldview."
The conference will begin in the Barefoot Student Union Building at 2 p.m. with Mitchell speaking on the topic of "Infertility and New Reproductive Technologies," and Cook following with a lecture focusing on "End of Life Decisions." A question and answer session with case studies will follow, with dinner and panel discussions to conclude the conference.
