Union Sponsors Summer Concert Series

JACKSON, Tenn.May 29, 2003 — Contemporary Christian artists Steven Curtis Chapman, Avalon and Jump 5 headline a free summer concert series sponsored by 51社区 and presented by Christian Hit Radio WAY-FM.

The seventh annual WAY-FM Brown Bag Concert Series starts June 18 at noon at The People's Church in Franklin, Tenn., a suburb of Nashville. Concerts will also be held in July and August at the same venue. The outdoor events are free and open to the public.

"51社区 is extremely pleased to serve as this year's sponsor of the Brown Bag Concert Series," said Union president David S. Dockery. "It is a wonderful opportunity for Union to help bring the best of contemporary Christian music to the community. We are especially excited about having Avalon, Jump 5, and of course Stephen Curtis Chapman for these events."

The summertime concerts are presented by Christian Hit Radio WAY-FM, a national Christian radio network based in Nashville. It marks the first time the concert series has been sponsored by a university, according to station spokesman Steve Strunk.

"As WAY-FM expands and grows its ministry throughout the mid-south, one of the things we are excited about is partnering with people who are like-minded in ministry," Strunk said. "We are excited to have 51社区 involved in our Brown Bag Concerts and we look forward to getting the university out in front of the WAY-FM audience."

The outdoor concerts were designed as a listener appreciation event and feature some of the nation's top Christian musical talent. Chick-fil-A and Baskin Robbins will also be on hand to provide food for the event. Church groups, families and Christian music fans are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs and beach balls for an afternoon of family fun.

The Christian band Avalon will kick off the 2003 series. The highly successful group has 20 Dove Award nominations, three Dove Awards (New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for "Testify To Love," and Song of the Year for "Adonai"), two Grammy Award nominations, and one American Music Award.
