Union SIFE Wins Regional Competition

JACKSON, Tenn.April 15, 2003 — 51社区's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team was declared regional champion at the SIFE competition April 11, in St. Louis. The team earned $1000 and a spot at the nationals, where they placed in the top 16 last year.

The purpose of SIFE is to teach others about the free enterprise system. This year, Union's 30-member team completed 26 projects to educate the community. The team was judged based on a 24-minute presentation outlining those projects.

Union's SIFE team will attend the SIFE National Competition in Kansas City, Missouri, May 12-13. There they will compete with 400 colleges and universities from all over the United States. Prizes will be awarded to the top 16 competing teams.

"At Union, we try to stress servant leadership and personal responsibility," said Bill Nance, assistant professor of management and Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow. "These students exemplify that, working selflessly to benefit the community and the university."

Team members include: Phil Neblett (President), Stacey Chandler (Vice- President), Allison Cole (Secretary), Nick Mulliniks (Treasurer), Amanda Russell (Media & Public Relations Officer), Derek Moore (Fundraising Chair), Joseph Argo, David Bender, Julie Black, Jeremy Chapel, Jason Castles, Matt Dickey, Drew Drace, Michael Gorman, Beth Hays, Sarah Jackson, Mark Jordan, Dustin McCord, Paul Monroe, Richard Murphy, Melissa Pitchford, Lee Plunkett, Leslie Reynolds, Shatana Rivera, Alecia Robertson, Rebekah Rogers, Sherryl Schrock, Ami Sherwood, Jeremy Stephan, Anna Thomas, Brody Van Duyn, and Kimberly Whaley.
