JACKSON, Tenn. — Feb. 24, 2003 — Nineteen 51社区 faculty promotions were approved by the executive committee of the board of trustees Feb. 19. Six others were granted tenure.
The promotions were announced to faculty and staff members by university president David S. Dockery on Monday as part of a summary of the executive committee meeting.
Dockery noted that current enrollment at Union is 2524, a record for the spring semester. Also, the number of donors to the university and the number of applications by prospective students are up this year, said Dockery. "It is encouraging to see this kind of commitment and growth during difficult economic times," he said.
Faculty members promoted to associate professor were: Michelle Atkins, education; Nancy Easley, education; Julie Glosson, language; Paul Munson, music; Barbara Perry, business; Philip Ryan, language and Charles Fowler, education.
Promoted to full professor were: Steve Baker, library services; Ruth Chastain, nursing; George Guthrie, Christian studies; David Gushee, Christian studies; Kelvin Moore, Christian studies; Joanne Stephenson, psychology; Jean Marie Walls, language; Georgia Welborn, music and Jan Wilms, computer science.
Members of the faculty promoted to university professor were: Jimmy Davis, chemistry; Cynthia Jayne, language and Walton Padelford, business.
Faculty receiving tenure were: Gail Coleman, nursing; Stephanie Edge, computer science; George Guthrie, Christian studies; Sally Henrie, chemistry; Melissa Moore, library services and James Patterson, Christian studies.
