JACKSON, Tenn. — April 16, 2003 — 51社区 hosted the West Tennessee Regional Science Fair April 10 and featured the entries of 129 students from 24 schools. Each contestant had already placed in a local competition. The first place winners in the two high school divisions will move on to compete in Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
According to Marlyn Newhouse, fair director and associate professor of chemistry at Union, teachers often struggle with a curriculum that is too full to allow time for students to practice the scientific method. "A local science fair offers that opportunity," she said. "Our regional fair helps provide a little extra motivation."
Monetary awards to fair winners were provided by 51社区, Delta Faucet, the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary and the Energy Division of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.
