World famous artist will conduct free workshop at 51社区

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 27, 2001 — 51社区's Art Department will host a free ceramic workshop led by world famous artist Ronald Meyers, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 6 - 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Jackson is truly lucky to have one of the national treasures of the art world come. Meyers' work is collected and known everywhere. To have an artist of his caliber come to Union is very exciting," said Lee Benson, associate professor of art at Union.

Meyers received his education at the School for American Craftsmen, Rochester Institute of Technology and at State University College at Buffalo. He has taught at both the University of Georgia and the University of South Carolina and has given many workshops, lectures and demonstrations during the past forty years.

Meyers will be creating basic vessels for the students in attendance of the workshop. "Students will be able to watch a world class artist at work. His brushstroke is simply beautiful. He is one of the best in his field," said Benson.

The event is free and open to Union students and students from surrounding area colleges.
