Philemon Brought to Life by Union Theatre and Music Departments

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 27, 2003 — Is anyone unredeemable? That is the question of Philemon, written by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, known for The Fantasticks. A combined effort of the 51社区 Players and Union鈥檚 Department of Music, Philemon, runs March 13-18.

Set in 4th century Antioch, this musical follows the life of an actor arrested by the Roman government and forced to infiltrate the persecuted Christian community disguised as their leader, Philemon.

After providing information leading to the deaths of some of the Christians, he begins to recognize the truth of their faith. He questions whether his sins are too great to be forgiven. Can he be redeemed?

The play stars Union graduate Blake Staples. Other cast members include Josh Hussung as the Commander, Lindsey Rapp as Marsyas, Jeremy Scott as Andos, Brennan Uthe as Servillius, Miranda Wallace as Kiki, and Ashley Mitchell as the Wife.

Performances are at 8 p.m. nightly, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Admission for adults is $7 general admission and $8 reserved seating. For children and students, admission is $3 general admission and $4 reserved seating.
