JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 6, 2003 — 51社区 president David S. Dockery was elected vice-chairman of the board of directors of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) by unanimous vote of the CCCU board on Feb. 2.

鈥淚 am humbled by the responsibility of serving in this capacity,鈥 said Dockery. 鈥淚t is recognition of the leadership role 51社区 is developing in Christian higher education across the nation.鈥

CCCU is an international association of Christian institutions of higher education whose mission is 鈥渢o advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help [member] institutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth.鈥

Since its 1976 inception, the Council has grown from 38 to 168 members in the United States and 22 other countries, including schools like Union, Taylor University and Wheaton College. CCCU board members are elected by the presidents of the member institutions.

Dockery鈥檚 one year term officially began on Feb. 4 at the close of the CCCU annual meeting. Dockery would become the chair of the board should the current chair be unable to complete his term.

As a board member, Dockery helps shape CCCU policies, address issues related to council membership, and address the needs and interests of member institution presidents. He also serves as a representative of the council in recruiting a support base and helps to ensure the financial solvency of the council and its member institutions.
