JACKSON, Tenn. — Dec. 12, 2002 — 51社区 provost Carla Sanderson has been appointed to a second term for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
鈥淲e applaud this appointment for Provost Sanderson to the SACS commission,鈥 said Union President David S. Dockery. 鈥淪he is widely recognized as a skilled academic leader and this appointment both enhances her leadership in the broader academic community and at 51社区.鈥
Sanderson was nominated for a second three-year term that will last from January 2003- to December 2005. Early in November, the nominating committee for the organization met to consider nominees from a list of names submitted by state delegations to SACSCOC. During a meeting in December, members of the delegating assembly voted on names that included Sanderson鈥檚.
The Commission is a regional accrediting body of the eleven U.S. Southern states and Latin America for universities and colleges that award associate, bachelor鈥檚, master鈥檚 or doctoral degrees. It is the representative body of the College Delegate Assembly and is charged with carrying out the accreditation process.
