51社区 Players will present Othello

Joy Spurlin, DJ Lee, and the rest of The 51社区 Players bring "Othello" to the stage March 8-13.
Union University's Department of Communication Arts will present the Shakespeare tragedy, "Othello," Thursday, March 8 - Tuesday, March 13 at the W.D. Powell Theatre in the Penick Academic Complex on campus. Performances will begin at 8 p.m. nightly with a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. Special student matinees will be offered for middle and high school students on Friday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 13, at 11 a.m.

"Othello is one of the greatest tragedies ever written," said David Burke, associate professor of communication arts and director of the play. Cast members include students D.J. Lee as Othello, Andrew Holladay as Iago, Joy Spurlin as Desdemona, Josh Betts as Rodrigo, Graham Hillard as Cassio and Lauren Vernon as Bianca.

Following the opening night performance there will be a gala reception and a chance to meet the cast and crew of the show. After the remainder of the performances there will be a discussion period featuring guest speakers on a variety of topics that are raised in the production.
