JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 17, 2002 — 51社区鈥檚 Department of Music will present organist Peter Richard Conte to perform on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. for the annual McAfee Organ Recital. Conte will perform in the G. M. Savage Memorial Chapel located in the Penick Academic Complex on the university鈥檚 campus.
Conte has been grand court organist of the Wanamaker Organ in Lord & Taylor, Philadelphia since 1989, after serving two years as assistant organist. He performs twice a day, six days a week. Conte has performed for National Public Radio and for ABC鈥檚 鈥淕ood Morning America.鈥
Conte has recorded a compact disc, 鈥淥rchestral Hors d鈥檕euvres,鈥 in which he plays his favorite genre of music 鈥 orchestra pieces. Currently, he serves as organist and choirmaster of St. Clement鈥檚 Church in Philadelphia. Since there, he has founded a choir of men and boys who went on tour in England in 1991. Before his time at St. Clement鈥檚, he was organist and choirmaster of the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, Penn. The McAfee Organ Recital is held annually in honor of James and Carolyn McAfee. While at Union, Conte will play the McAfee Visser-Rowland Organ named in honor of Carolyn McAfee.
